How Do All-on-X Dental Implants Work?

Dental implants are designed to act as prosthetic tooth roots. Unlike real teeth, though, not every replacement tooth needs its own root. With the All-on-X method, we carefully place 4 – 6 dental implants in the jawbone at strategic locations. We strive to use areas of the bone that are naturally strong and thick. Then, in the same appointment, we attach a temporary denture to the implants. Yes, you could literally arrive at our office with no teeth and leave with a beautiful smile! After an appropriate healing period, the temporary denture will be replaced with a permanent one.

Am I a Candidate for All-on-X Dental Implants?

All-on-X treatment might be right for you if:

  • You have lost all or most of your teeth throughout one of your dental arches.
  • Your jawbone is strong enough and healthy enough to support dental implants. (Thanks to the unique All-on-4 method, most patients meet this criterion even without a bone graft.)
  • You are healthy enough to undergo minor surgery.
  • You are committed to good habits that will support the long-term success of your new smile.

If you are not sure if you qualify for All-on-4 dental implants, visit us for a consultation. Most adults with missing teeth can enjoy the many benefits of implant-supported tooth replacement!

Benefits of All-on-X Dental Implants

Some of the top benefits of All-on-X treatment include:

  • Dental implants can restore much of your bite force, allowing you to dig into even tough and chewy foods with ease.
  • All-on-X dentures are permanently attached to the underlying implants, so you can treat them similarly to natural teeth.
  • We carefully design All-on-X restorations so they complement each patient’s natural facial features.
  • Jawbone preservation. Dental implants stimulate the jawbone and can prevent the deterioration that normally occurs after tooth loss.
  • With proper care, dental implants have the potential to last a lifetime.

All-on-X vs. Traditional Dental Implants

All-on-X and traditional implants have much in common. For example, they can provide many of the same benefits. However, there are some key differences between them:

  • Usually, All-on-X requires just one surgery. Traditional implants may require two or more.
  • Often, traditional implants require a waiting period of several months between implant placement and placement of the prosthetic teeth. All-on-X implants can immediately support prosthetic teeth.
  • All-on-X is exclusively for full-arch replacement, whereas traditional implants can replace any number of missing teeth.
  • In some cases, traditional implants may be slightly stronger than All-on-X.
